Have you noticed that things have changed so much in last 20 years? I mean, how and when did it happen that if you bring up "Sex, drugs, and Rock 'n Roll", younger people immediately think your asking about "Pro-nouns, Prozac, and bowling alleys"!?!??

I fully support people being able to curate their own online experience, and blocking anyone they feel they need to.
That being said, the occasional times I've gone to like/comment on Pinterest and can't because I've been blocked have always been a bit baffling. I don't get into debates on Pinterest and the majority of my interactions are positive types, sharing a joke, telling someone good job, or occasionally correcting misinformation in a dull sort of way.
It's extra baffling when I double check the users boards and it's a bunch of fairly benign and inane stuff like comics, funny tumbrl quotes, fandom, art, memes... The same stuff I tend to gravitate towards incidentally. Not exactly highly divisive stuff. (Side note: I don't get into ship wars).
I always wonder, did they misinterpret something I said? Easy enough to happen online and my brain damage post-Covid definitely doesn't help. But of course there's no chance to apologize or correct what I was trying to say.
I'm sure some of them are just plain disagreements. Which okay, sure, if you gotta protect your sanity you do what you gotta do.
Course that leads to the last thing which always makes me feel a bit sad. The number of times I've gone to tell someone they have a good point, or their joke made me laugh, or to offer encouragement about something.
They never get to see those either.
I dunno, I guess I just wish there was some kind of less nuclear option sometimes, or at least a way to tell what it was that set them off. Maybe I've got a turn of phrase that isn't taken the way I expect. Be nice to be able to have the option to change something if I need to.
But I'll never know.

I love that the trophy thing isn't even relevant to gen z so the millennials answered it 🤣
So Australia has a yearly tradition going back over 20 years, that every Australia Day we all gather round our screens to watch an ad for a certain product. It's so ingrained in our consciousness that the ads don't even really relate to what they're supposed to sell anymore, we all just know.
This year the ad broke containment, and non-Australians are having their brains melted by this bizarre tradition, so international followers, lets see if you can work out what this is trying to sell before the last few seconds.

The best thing that happened to my grandparents' generation, was that they died before seeing their children their country turn into the monster they slew in WWII.
God, what a fucking disgrace the boomers became, ethically and politically.

Week 1 - Creative Practice And Critical Thinking
During this lesson, we were tasked to explore a particular social issue adn create a story about it based on an experience or fiction. I decided to focus on the issue of “social identity and how certain generations could have negative reactions to people vocalizing about their different pronouns and how they would like to be identified.
I think this issue is very current and has been a very controversial topic as many different people may either accept it and understand it or completely against supporting people who choose to go by their terms. I had an experience with a friend who had decided to go by he/him pronouns when they were a girl. They had felt it represented them better and felt comfortable being addressed as a “he” rather than a “she”. When he told his parents about this they were very dismissive and refused to accept the idea that their kid would want to be identified as anything other than she/her. They didn't understand the whole idea of it in general. It had not been something they had been familiar with and rather having an open mind and supporting their kid, they decided it was not acceptable.
I think something I could work on when writing my story is thinking about how I wanted to structure and instead of making it more critical, make it more creative. I think I did have some creative elements to my story but it was more of a real event that occurred as well as a common experience.

I just don't think the generation that made the Spongmonkeys an overnight viral sensation has any room to speak critically about how incomprehensibly weird the stuff kids these days are into is.

Shoutout to the Elder Millennial at the table next to me at the gaming bar, whose barbarian just charged into battle shouting "LEEEEROYYYY JENKINS!!!!"
and then had to stop and sheepishly explain a World of Warcraft meme to his genZ GM.

Thinking about Authenticity vs. Deception on TikTok
I like my social media to be text-focused. I’m not camera shy, but I don’t like that to be my primary form of exposure to the world. TikTok isn’t for me, and fair disclaimer: I still have no experience with it. However, when I reflect on my preferences, I remember one significant difference between the internet experienced by Zoomers vs. previous generations: the sheer deluge of disinformation…

i really can not stand the “fandom is so fun we’re all just projecting and making shit up” thing. because no i actually deeply admire the canon of my favorite media and all the intention and care and craft put into it. we are not the same.

🦇: "You know, your grandmother disapproves of you visiting your lover's private quarters before marriage."
🐉, scoffing: "That boomer."
🦇, gasping: "Where did you learn that term? I cannot believe you, Malleus. I did not raise you to be like this."
🦇: "I did not raise you to use the wrong term in a sentence. Because your grandmother is not a boomer,"
🦇: "She's a fossil L-M-A-O."
🐉: "Is she?"
🐉: "She's probably older than the very first dinosaur. Do you reckon she was there to witness how the world's crust was formed?"
🦇: "Maybe she could confirm through first-hand experience if the Big Bang theory's real, don't you think?"
Ah, the joys of pouring wine and late night conversations.

An interesting “side effect” of the canonization of the “classic era” meaning “younger era” is that the classic era now reads as “cute fun times” before the core cast became teenagers/tweens and things got super, super complicated.
Because the characters are “younger,” there’s an air of little rascal innocence” to everything they do now. The new releases like Mania and Superstars now feel like little throwbacks to the young heroes just learning how to work together and make a difference in the world.
I don’t think this is a bad thing at all.
